Here is the last post fro the series “Temples: Architectural Wonders of India”!!
The Gondeshwar Temple is an ancient Hindu temple built in the 11th-12th century AD, located in Sinner, around 30 km from Nashik city. It features the main shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva and four other small temples dedicated to Surya (Sun), Vishnu, Parvati and Ganesha. This temple was built during the rule of Yadava dynasty. The town Sinner was the stronghold of the dynasty during their imperial period. Gondeshwar temple is built in the Bhumija style, which is designed as the main shrine surrounded by four subsidiary shrines. The wall of the temple depicts scenes from the ancient epic Ramayan. The plan of the temple is very similar to that of the Ambarnath Shiva Temple. The temple complex was originally surrounded by a wall, which is now mostly destroyed.
